10:15 AM Petocin time!!
It’s 10:15 AM and the IV Petocin is running! This will really get the ball rolling as the dose will increase over time. The doctor came in a short while ago and did another cervical exam to reveal that she is 2 cm dilated now. In one of the pregnancy classes we took, we were told that birthing a child is like pushing a boulder down a hill, it may take a bit to build that momentum but the longer it goes the faster it rolls.
Katrina is feeling a little bit nauseous but the nurse was quick to come back with some Zofran (smooth muscle relaxer) and diet ginger ale. The people who work L&D have been very good to us and they’ve been consistently checking back. I mean I know it’s their job and all but they have been doing it well.
Also the nurse mentioned that she had a portable monitor so Katrina could walk the hall and get some steps in. She wants to get out of the bed and walk but understandably not until the nausea subsides. It’s estimated that we have several hours left before Katrina breaks my fingers while she’s pushing. I promise I won’t complain. I know how to splint a hand.
The good news is that the sun is now more overhead and not shining through the windows as bad as before. Little wins. So here we are, me on the couch and Katrina in the bed next to me. Law & Order reruns play on the small tv while she tries to get some shut eye.
The nurse came back to readjust the monitor and increase the Petocin drip. Whish-whish-whish-whish 140 beats per minute.
That’s all I really have for now. Keep checking back as I’m sure this is about to get a lot more interesting. Also thanks all for the positive feedback.
I’m writing these updates as a way to keep everyone informed while not having to text every one and have my phone going off constantly. Also it will be nice to have these days documented so the details aren’t forgotten. Feel free to share the link among friends and family. Lots of love. -Jack
